Based on one of the world’s highest-grade known zinc deposits, Dugald River is located approximately 65km north-west of Cloncurry in Queensland, Australia.
Dugald River is a top -10 global zinc mine and will process an average 1.7 million tonnes per annum of ore to initially produce 170,000 tonnes of zinc in concentrate at full ramp-up, plus by-products. The mine will operate over an estimated 25 years while the ore body remains open at depth.
The successful commissioning of the Dugald River Project was achieved ahead of schedule and under budget. First production of finished zinc concentrate left Dugald River on 8 November 2017.
On 16 December 2017, first shipment of approximately 10,500 wet metric tonnes of zinc concentrate produced as part of commissioning activities at the Dugald River Project departed the Port of Townsville in Australia for Huangpu, China.
On 1 May 2018, Dugald River successfully achieved commercial production.
With the successful the ramp up to date, MMG now expects to produce to 140,000 to 150,000 tonnes of zinc in concentrate in 2018, above the previous guidance range of 120,000 to 140,000 tonnes. This includes 39,717 tonnes pre commercial production.
The development and operation of the Dugald River mine will provide an important employment, economic and revenue contribution for Cloncurry and Queensland.
